She's here!
Tuesday was some day! We had Fred's side of the family coming to our house on Tuesday afternoon for a belated Christmas celebration. We found out just a few days before that Kaylee was going to be delivered via C-section that afternoon as well! That meant that Jen and Josh were at the hospital while there were nine of us here, having a somewhat rushed opening of gifts, then niece Sarah and I headed to the hospital while the rest of the family stayed here to enjoy the meal that was ready for them (I hope they enjoyed it, although I came home later to find that they didn't touch the dessert!).
We waited in the family area with Josh's parents, sisters, brother and brother-in-law and my parents, most of us standing in the hallway because it was quite a busy place that afternoon. Soon several of us began to get text messages with this picture attached....
Kaylee arrived at 4:20 p.m. CST, weighing 7 pounds and 7 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches in length. That's the same birth weight as her daddy and her grandmother (me)! Almost immediately after hearing of her arrival, another family received the news that a boy had been born with the exact birth weight, so we all wondered if the scale was stuck! Kelli, Josh's mom, thought that this picture looked like Jennifer, while I thought it looked like Josh. We both agreed that she had quite a worried look on her little face. Perhaps she was wondering what she was getting herself into!
We had a lot more waiting to do, but we were soon joined by the rest of the family that had been enjoying themselves at our house. Before Jen was moved to a postpartum room, we learned that Kaylee had been moved to the nursery, so we trooped down the hall and oohed and aahed over her through the window until they shooed us back to the family area. I was able to snap this picture on my phone....
Lots more waiting, although Josh was able to go to the nursery and got pictures of Kaylee's first bath. We all laughed at this one of her head covered in shampoo! She looks like she's enjoying a spa day!
Most of the family left for home, while Josh's parents, sisters, brother and I finally made it to the postpartum room to see Jen. We were finally rewarded with Kaylee's return to her mommy's arms....
Then the baby-holding began! I got the first turn (thanks, Kelli)!!
Kelli was next, but Josh somehow managed to grab her before I got a picture, so here's Kelli taking a pic of Kaylee in Josh's arms....
Lot's more holding and picture-taking ensued, before we all headed out to give the new family some rest. I came home to pack a bag and head off to take care of Kaylee's dog family for a couple of days. Kaylee got to meet Harley and Shiner yesterday afternoon when they arrived home from the hospital, so they're already practicing guarding her....
Yes, indeed, I think this grandmother gig is going to be the best ever! Be prepared for lots of Kaylee updates. Maybe I should change the name of my blog to "Pear-Shaped Grandmother"?
