I hope I haven't put you off...

In my introductory post on this blog, I mentioned that I thought it rude to comment anonymously on other people's blogs. And for the first couple of days, I not only had my settings on comment moderation, but also set to disallow anonymous comments. But I realized right away that many people don't want to set up a Google or Blogger or OpenID account just to make a comment, so I changed my settings.

So please, feel free to make all the comments you want! I'll still moderate them, so you may not see it posted for a while, but that's to keep the meanies and evil-posters and spammers at bay. You're not one of them, I know! So I'll approve your comment if it's appropriate, even if I don't know who you are. It would be nice if you'd give me a little hint, though. Your first name or your initials or your location or any of the above, included within or at the end of your comment will do. I want to hear from you, really I do!

Ruby and the Clicking Bug

Finally got a video of Ruby with the lights on! Of course, part of the time she isn't actually in the light. She's getting long and leggy at approximately 10 weeks old.

We've got these bugs that make a clicking sound and sort of pop up into the air. I have no idea what they are called, so we just call them clicking bugs, although my mom calls them horrible clicking bugs. They make great cat toys, so I'm sure that's their purpose in being here. I guess Mom just needs to get a cat.

If you listen carefully, you can hear the clicking. It sounds like those little metal clickers we all had when we were kids. Sorry for the jerky "panning"....it's hard to keep up with a kitten and her clicking bug.

Ruby and the Mirrors

Just a short post to show you a snippet of cute. I was just sitting here at the computer when I heard a THUNK behind me. Apparently Ruby had just discovered the mirrors arranged above the family room love seat. The long one at the bottom is constantly smudged with kitty nose prints, since the two older cats like to check on their alter egos in there. Ruby went one step further and stood up to check the others, hence the crooked smaller mirrors. I wish I'd gotten more on video. As usual, it's a little dark. The blinds are closed against the heat and there wasn't time to turn on the overhead lights. Cute happens when it happens.

Sometimes my hatred of cooking rears its ugly head

Being somewhat poor of late and with both Fred and I needing to eat healthier, I've been serving up lean grilled meats and salads most evenings, with an occasional foray into burgers or even a hot dog or two. But some evenings I just can't do it. The very idea of cooking even as simply as I usually do is just too much. Tonight was one of those nights.

Fred was happy to pop a Stouffer's mac & cheese into the microwave, so I was off the hook. About an hour after he ate, I was feeling a little hungry myself...well, actually, I was feeling a lot hungry, since my lunch (with Mom at Applebee's) and my late afternoon Java Chip Frappuccino (Mom and I usually end up at Starbucks on our days together) had worn off by 8:00pm. Usually I resort to a bowl of cereal, but after a few minutes of checking the cereal boxes, the freezer and the fridge, I decided upon Lender's bagels with soft Philly cream cheese and a dollop of apricot Smucker's Simply Fruit.

Breakfast....it's what's for dinner.

Oh, and here's my new granddog...Skyy!

I didn't want to do it...

but I guess there comes a time when you have to admit that it's time to start marking down the merchandise. There were still five listings in my Etsy shop from the first two weeks that I put them out there for the world to see. I think all of them were very reasonably priced to begin with, but those five listings are now 25 percent off. Check out my Etsy mini to the right to click your way to my shop.

I'm very thankful to the friends and relatives who did purchase many of those first items. Thanks especially to my book club, who kindly let me show up with jewelry in tow at our May meeting and actually bought several pieces. And thanks to the people who took a look at what I could do and asked me to make custom items for them. I might have given up if it hadn't been for all of you!

Having my first online sale last week has further inspired me to keep going, going, going, just like a certain bunny we all know.

Now, I'm exhausted and need to get myself to bed. Mom's coming over to go out to lunch tomorrow...don't want to sleep through lunch!

Baby it's hot outside!

We just had our thirteenth official day over 100 degrees, including the last five days in a row. By official, they mean as measured at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The closest Weatherbug reporting station for my zip code has reported more triple-digit days than that, with most of them in the 103 to 105 range.

They said on TV that our average number of 100-plus degree days per year is seventeen, so does that mean we only have to suffer through four more? I'm not going to place any bets on it.

Wherever you are, I hope it's cooler than here. If you're here, I hope you've got some nice indoor activities and some good air conditioning.

This is where you won't find me sitting, most days.

Yippee!

After 13 weeks as an Etsy shopkeeper, I finally made my first sale yesterday! One of my very favorite items, the Springy necklace, took off for a new home in California today.

Hopefully it won't be another 13 weeks until my next sale...

p.s. - don't forget I'm still offering free shipping to the U.S. and Canada in my Etsy shop thru Saturday. The link is over to the right there...

I'd like to make a suggestion, just for fun...

Wow, two whole blog posts in the same 24 hours! But I just had this thought and wanted to come and make this suggestion to you. While you're reading this blog, preferably after you've finished reading this blog, scroll back up to the top there to the Blogger toolbar and click "next blog". You may have to do this several times before you hit a blog that holds your interest or is even in a language that you read and understand. If you get to one that doesn't have the toolbar showing, just hit your browser's back button and click it again on the previous blog. And don't worry about running into graphic content you don't want to see. Blogger will give you a warning if you're about to venture into a really adults only blog and give you the option of going ahead or saying "Stop!"

It's really a great way to find some terrific blogs that you might never see otherwise. It's how I found many of the most interesting blogs I subscribe to and read often. I've occasionally even subscribed to a blog in a language I don't understand, just because the pictures posted are so beautiful. If you're not sure how to subscribe to a blog or what I'm even talking about, just leave a comment and I'll be happy to explain.

Okay, back to work, but here's how my cats celebrated the 4th of July...

Sometimes I Wonder

...about myself, that is.

I love playing games, so I play several different word games on Facebook. It's really nice to be able to play with people you know, unlike some of the other online game sites. Anyway, my favorite all-time word game is Scrabble, but the version my friends and I usually play on FB is called Lexulous. But when I've played all my turns and no one else is online to play theirs, I often play Bejeweled Blitz, which is a one minute tournament play version of the long-popular Bejeweled arcade game. Because who doesn't love colorful exploding jewels?

So, late at night, I can often be found playing Bejeweled Blitz, but while I'm playing, I'm singing. And I find myself singing the strangest things. Show tunes. Old pop songs. Tonight I started out with "The Dawntreader," an old song by Joni Mitchell. You know...the one that starts out "Peridots and periwinkle blue medallions..." I even learned to play it on the guitar once, and my guitar teacher always made me sing while I was playing.

From there, I moved on to some of "If I Loved You" from the musical Carousel. Yep, that's one I learned in high school choir. So that makes sense, sort of.

But then I found myself happily singing "One Toke Over the Line." Like I said....sometimes I wonder.

Okay, don't forget, as long as you've read this far (is anyone reading this?), that if you order something from my Etsy shop this week, the shipping is free to anywhere in the US or Canada. No matter how many items you buy. There are only 21 items there, right now, but if you want to buy every one of them, I'll still ship them to you for free, complete with a cute little gift tin for each item, all tied up with a happy little ribbon. No secret passwords or anything. Oh, and here's a sneak peak at a couple of items I'll be listing tomorrow. They need a little tweaking first, but I took a trip to The Artful Bead yesterday to get the elements they were lacking, so I'll get those fixed up in the morning and get more pictures taken.

I've got another item to list also, one that I'm very excited about, but I'll tell you more about that later. I've got to get myself to bed if I plan to get up and do anything in the morning. Night-night!

I hope you're having a lovely weekend doing whatever you choose to do. I can't wait to see some fireworks.

In honor of Independence Day, I'm offering freedom from shipping fees on all orders placed July 4th through July 11th to be shipped anywhere in the U.S. or Canada! Your order will still come in cute gift-ready packaging, too.
